About the Personal Water Craft Association Of Bermuda
The personal Watercraft Association of Bermuda has been in existence for
a number of years. Currently the President is Sean Johnson.
The organization has become quite active in the last four years through
organized social activities and active participation in racing. The
associations’ main goal is to promote growth of the sport along with
education on responsible, safe
operation of the craft with consideration for others.Socially, PWAB has about five events during the calendar year. They
include a couple of around the island rides, and a poker run. In 2002,
a water safety demonstration is
planned. It should occur during the Dockyard boat show in April in
conjunction with the Water safety counsel. Windjammer often hosts the social
events, playing the part of a launch
and gathering base.
Regarding Racing, PWAB races under the BDA. Power Boat Association. There
are approximately 13 race days in the year including the famed
Around The Island Race. PWC still only
go halfway around actually running from Ferry Reach into Hamilton and back.
The offshore course is
about 35 miles and has been completed in
about as little as 33 minutes! The rest of the season features actual closed
course racing around a
complex track at ferry reach and Special
venue races in Hamilton and St. Georges. For 2002, an actual around the
island race is being planned with a refuel stop roughly halfway along the
60+mile route.
